The full form of GMAT is the Graduate Management Admission Test. This is the standardised test which are used by the elite business schools all over the country and this has become an integral part of the admission process to business schools. As it is kind of an admission test for business schools they are more of a business focused exam but at the same time of being heavy on math, they are designed to test the overall academic aptitude of an applicant which include written and verbal communication skills because they are also quite important in a business world.

Just like other popular college entrance competitive examinations like GRE and SAT, this GMAT examination also contains various sections which can test their verbal and mathematical proficiency along with their writing skills. Those who sit for the test, gets 3 and a half hours to complete the test that contains 3 sections. The analytical writing section contains 30 minutes a piece for 2 separate essays. Then the other section has multiple choice questions which is known as the quantitative section (one needs to keep approximately 57 minutes for this) and then the third section which is filled with critical reasoning, reading comprehension and other things for which they can allot another 75 minutes.

Here are some major tips to follow for the success:

  • First of all, one needs to make sure that they know the right GMAT syllabus before they start preparing. When one looks at the syllabus, they can find that they got most of the maths section covered in high school only. If one is confident enough, they can start taking the examination in the junior college itself and do not wait till they become a graduate. As the GMAT score remains active for 5 years, even if one takes it at the beginning of a college, one can get admission to business schools as per their GMAT score once they become a graduate.
  • Taking economics an statistics as college subjects can be of great benefit because there will be some questions on the GMAT which will test one’s knowledge of statistics. Though there are no straight questions from economics in the examination but having a working familiarity with this subject can be of great help to clear the basic concepts have ne understanding the real life business scenarios much better.
  • The verbal section of this examination matters a lot. One needs to perform quite well in that section so that they can score high marks on the overall GMAT examination. Also, being good in verbal section can be very helpful in future because business world works a lot on the communication power of individuals.
  • One needs to practice more and more so that they can finish all the questions in time. Not only that, with more practicing one can get to know what their weaker parts are so that they can brush up those areas in order to do well in the real examination.
